Let me tell you my Real Housewives Story...

 

So, this post might seem self indulgent, but then again, this is my blog, which is all about putting forward my opinion, so isn’t this entire blog self indulgent? ;)

I thought I’d share with you guys my Real Housewives story, and how I became such a huge fan of the Bravo franchise. So here we go…

I never watched The Real Housewives of Orange County. Ever. Hard to believe, considering now I watch every single series in the franchise. My sister however loved the show and would watch it all the time. I would go to her house and she’s be watching it and I honestly remember saying “How could you watch this?” with disdain and disbelief that anybody could watch the show (What was I thinking?!!). Be aware, I had never seen an episode, just advertisements for the series and I didn’t really like what I saw. And we actually didn’t have pay TV at the time because we had moved house and we just didn’t bother with it.

Fast forward and we decided to install Pay TV at our house, and Arena (Australia’s equivalent to Bravo) was back on in my lounge room. I was getting reacquainted with all the channels, including Arena, and noticed that a lot of the channels were having marathons of different shows. In fact, I was introduced to the Kardashians because E! ran a marathon of the first few seasons, and I’ve continued to watch the show ever since. But I found myself watching one particular marathon… the first couple of seasons of The Real Housewives of New York City. I don’t know why I decided to watch it, but I found myself unable to change the channel. Now, I didn’t start watching it from the beginning, because by the time I had clicked the channel over, it was about half-way through the first season, but I didn’t stop watching until the second season reunion. I learnt that the marathon was happening because the new season of New York was about to start. So, I decided to tune in, and found myself still loving the series.

Then of course, ads appeared for Atlanta… and then New Jersey. Both I watched. Both I loved. I would like to note that I still wasn’t watching Orange County at the time… even though I tuned in to DC and Miami. My OC viewing habits didn’t start until half way around season five. I would watch here and there but I didn’t tune in every single week because the love wasn’t totally there. But then there was season six and we were introduced to Peggy, who I really liked and started tuning in for. Season six was the first season of Orange County that I actually watched from start to finish. Of course I was disappointed when Peggy left, but then of course we were introduced the amazing Heather Dubrow who has taken the number one spot as my favourite Orange County Housewife.

So that’s pretty much how my love for the Housewives franchise began. I still consider New York as my favourite of the franchise because it is what turned me on to the series and presented me with my all-time favourite Housewife, Bethenny Frankel… but it’s pretty even with Beverly Hills at the moment.
